Muscle knots and contractures in Castelldefels

A contracture is tissue that has stayed contracted and does not return to its resting length on its own. Joan Jiménez, registered naturopath (FENACO 3802), uses manual assessment to locate which fibres are retained and in what order they should be released so the change holds.

Signs we see in consultation

A contracture is fairly precisely recognised on palpation and movement:

  • A hardened point that feels like a band or a knot.
  • Local discomfort that increases when pressing the area.
  • Loss of range in the movement involving that muscle.
  • A stiffness that does not ease with rest.
  • Discomfort that always returns to the same point.

What we usually find

A contracture appears when a muscle works continuously without recovering: sustained postures, repeated movements, efforts beyond the usual, or an area compensating for work another is not doing.

The retained tissue loses blood flow and elasticity and tends to perpetuate itself because the area stops moving normally. That is why pressing the point is rarely enough: the tissue must be released and the effort distribution that caused it corrected.

Approach and method

The session starts with a manual assessment of the tissue to distinguish what is genuinely contracted and what is compensating. Often the most painful point is not the origin.

From there Joan applies decontracting massage and deep work with TNDR (Natural Unblocking Regenerating Technique), releasing in the order the tissue response dictates, with no protocols or fixed timings.

An integrative service, not just a massage

Joan does not work with a single technique. Depending on what the assessment shows, he combines TNDR integrative massage in one session with decontracting work, facial and TMJ work, foot reflexology, biomagnetism, reiki or Access Bars. The combination is decided case by case, with no closed protocols.

What the work aims for

Release of the retained tissue and the hardened point.
Recovered range in the affected movement.
Less recurrence of discomfort in the same area.
Better distribution of effort between muscle groups.
Reduced overall stiffness in the area.
Movement and recovery guidance between sessions.

Who it is indicated for

  • ·People with sustained postures or repeated movements.
  • ·Anyone who always notices the same hardened point.
  • ·Athletes overloaded by volume or poor effort distribution.
  • ·Those who have suddenly increased their physical activity.
  • ·People carrying stiffness that does not ease with rest.

The consultation in Castelldefels

The session does not start on the table, but by listening. First we go through what you notice, since when and in which situations it appears; then a manual assessment reads the state of the tissue and locates where the load is actually held.

1
Listening

What you notice, since when and what makes it worse.

2
Assessment

Manual reading of the tissue to locate the load.

3
Approach

No protocols or fixed timings: we work what needs working.

Frequently asked questions

Is pressing the painful point enough?▼
Rarely. The hardened point is usually the consequence, not the origin. That is why the session starts by assessing the whole area and its chain, to release in the right order and stop the discomfort returning.
How many sessions are usually needed?▼
A recent contracture usually responds quickly. When it has been settled for a while or keeps returning to the same point, several sessions are planned and adjusted to the tissue response.
Is the work intense?▼
It is deep work, but intensity is always matched to your tolerance and to how the tissue responds. You can regulate it throughout the session.
Do people come from outside Castelldefels?▼
Yes. The consultation is in Castelldefels and people regularly come from Gavà, Sitges, Viladecans and nearby. Book online.
Does it replace healthcare?▼
No. It is bodywork support from naturopathy, complementary and never a substitute for assessment by a health professional.
